Being DJs ourselves, buying vinyl has always been a big part of our lives. It’s been both a pleasure and honour to have worked with so many great talents from around the world on their sleeve artwork. Below are a sample of some of our favourite sleeve’s we’ve had the pleasure of working on.
Marcus Intalex: Pole Dancer/Konspiracy (Blindside)
Dan from Blindside Records in the UK approached us to design the sleeve for an upcoming Marcus Intalex 12″ titled Pole Dancer and Konspiracy. With titles like that, we were only too happy to do up some FBI style classified graphics for the artwork. Our starting point was to get inspiration from classified goverment documents and take it’s theme and turn it into something we could use. Thanks to our fax machine, we managed to degenerate our hand assembled imagery to what you see on the final sleeve art. The result was a cost effective sleeve printed with only 1 colour on raw card to maintain it’s analogue low-fi feel.
Kiat: Slave Codes / Morphy: Klang (Qilin)
For the first release on Qilin Music, we approached none other that then the ‘Dutch Master’ Delta to contribute art for the sleeve. We felt his complexity, grittiness and rhythm his work generates would be a perfect mirror of the music.
Fist Of Fury EP1:
Being old skool designers ourselves, we wanted to inject a hand made feel to the graphics for this cover. The whole cover was laid out in a traditional paste up style and then drum scanned for hi-res grittiness!
Digital’s Phoenix Rising LP:
For the album cover art for Digital’s Phoenix Rising LP, we wanted to inject an Asian feel into it as Digital was into the whole martial arts thing. For the cover illustration, we collaborated with Andy Yang to come up with a design for the phoenix which we then made an actual embroidery for the final look of the sleeve.
This calligraphy style painting done by Ken was on the way to the bin but we salvaged it!
Beer And Pussy b/w Warning 12″:
Thank you Gary for sacrificing his internship time to research loads of hentai to come up with this brilliant illustration for the cover.
Digital’s Spacefunk LP:
More hand made graphics for Digital’s cover. We wanted an epic feel without sacrificing the roughness in the artwork. When we were briefed on this project, Dan Motive was in town and we decided to have a crack at this cover together!
Waterhouse Dub b/w Tonight (Pendulum Remix)
With the repress of the mighty Waterhouse Dub by Digital, we needed a super loud in your face rude cover. We took Swifty’s handmade font and mashed it with a roots colour scheme. Live and direct analogue style!
Soul:r House Bag:
When Soul:r head honcho Marcus Intalex approached us for a new look to his label, we dug deep into the past references of classic soul jazz covers and brought into the future.
